After three months of training and grooming, it is now time for the final showdown for Exopa New Faces Models contest on December 29, 2011 at the plush Exopa Burg.

All winners of the previous editions of the exciting Exopa New Faces Model Contest will regroup to compete for the ultimate title of the ‘New Faces of 2011’.

This will be exciting as the Exopa in-house committee has put together a list of entertaining drills for the contestants. ‘Who Is The Best New Face?’

Overall winners of the competition will receive an undisclosed amount of money, an exclusive 2-year modeling contract with the Exopa modeling agency, a special exposure package with NEWS-ONE newspaper and ‘Allo TiGo’ TV programme, hosted by Jon Germain, and a feature on the upcoming ‘Ghana Fashion Weekend 2012.’

This is the ultimate platform for up-and-coming talents both in the fashion and music arena as the lives of participants have already begun changing for the better.

Each contestant will be given the opportunity to display their talent from dancing the much celebrated ‘azonto’ dance to others. The designers will showcase African fabrics in a form more appealing to the youth, hence maximizing sales and patronage.

This event is set to help improve the modeling trends as colourful African fabrics will be displayed on the runway by models of both sexes. The event will also see a great mixture of fashion and music as there will be guest appearances by the king of the streets, Kwaw Kese, and other well-known artistes from Ghana and Benin.

The Exopa New Faces Model Contest is set to gradually transform the Ghanaian fashion industry as it is scheduled to take off every last Saturday of the month, with a finale in the last month of every year. This event is an initiative of Exopa Modelling Agency.

71 year old woman steals flowers from young boy's grave' PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 December 2011 09:35

A woman who was allegedly caught on camera stealing flowers from the grave of an 11-year-old boy has been charged with theft. The unnamed 71-year-old is due to appear at Redbridge Magistrates'. Court today where she is will be accused of taking the tributes from the grave of Robert Stringer in Barking, East London. Yesterday it was claimed by the boy's family that the disgusted daughter of the woman who was filmed had given her name to police. Robert's uncle Terence Rose said the family had received a call from officers to tell them the information.

Mr Rose said: 'The police called and told us they had received a phone call from the woman's daughter. She was appalled to see her mum on the CCTV images. 'The police wouldn't tell us any more information.' A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police later confirmed that a member of the public had contacted them to identify the alleged thief. But she would not confirm if it was the woman's daughter who had phoned with the information.

They added that officers would approach the suspect later today. Footage of the woman taking flowers was captured secretly by Robert's family after a number of plants and ornaments went missing from the grave at the Rippleside cemetery. Robert's cousin Steve Rose spoke today of the family's shock at what the footage uncovered.

He said: 'We were surprised, everyone expected it to be kids. It's an awful, callous crime and none of us can understand how she could do that to a child. 'Robert was a lovely lad and it was a terrible tragedy. 'Potted plants and baskets started to disappear on a regular basis. That's why we installed the camera. 'I want this woman prosecuted for the terrible things she's done. 'It's not the cost of the flowers, it's the principle. The police have been very helpful but they told me she may only get a warning.'

Robert's aunt Kathleen Harris, 75, said: 'I'm devastated because we have cared for the grave for the last 30 years. I'm so angry. I want her to be named and shamed. 'For her to come along and fill her boots like that is just wicked. What right has she got to steal from that grave?" Robert's parents George and Joan never got over his death, which happened in 1980, said the family.

His father George died in 1984 and mother Joan died in 2009. They were buried in the same plot as Robert. Today a worker at the cemetery said: 'The council chief is coming to meet us today to talk about how this could have happened. She's furious apparently. 'But it's a huge cemetery and we can't be everywhere at once. 'I don't recognise the woman from the pictures. She's not someone I've seen here before.'

Lord Kenya stirs emotions at gospel album launch PDF Print E-mail

It was an emotionally charged atmosphere at the St James Baptist Church in Kumasi, where the ‘born-again’ Lord Kenya launched his ‘Chistlife’ gospel album.

Like the biblical account of the prodigal son, Lord’s father, Nana Akpor Kenya shed tears as he recalled the pains and frustrations the family had to experience at the peak of their son’s stardom.

“There were times I feared to go before my own son. I had been questioned and intimidated in attempts to visit my son,” said the Nzemahene of Ashanti, who was excited ‘to have found his long lost son’.

The son could not help but hug the father as he took to the stage to perform his ‘Christlife’ track, stirring patrons to emotional heights.

The 33-year-old former hiplife superstar held the audience spellbound on their feet as he testified his liberation “from the ghetto to the church”.

Lord Kenya brought to bear his musical craft as he sung “I don’t know why Jesus loves me”, interlaced with his evangelistic testimony of his addiction to drugs and eventual miraculous liberation by “an invisible hand”.

“People hailed me as a superstar anytime I performed, but deep within me I was empty. What I needed was Jesus…If God says you’re for Him, indeed you’re His”, he wailed.

The titles of Kenya's last two albums - ‘Born Again’ and ‘God Dey’ - were perhaps cast in the young man’s reverence for the Supreme Being but least did he expect the projects would mark the beginning of his spiritual awakening.

The ‘rap heavyweight champion’ is now in the Christ business but he still got his swag on to excite the crowd.

The charismatic Kenya thrilled fans with his renditions as he sets out to “win souls for Christ” through music and testimonies.

He was supported at the launch by Agape Incorporated, Prophet Seth Frempong, Slim Becky, and Rev. George Owusu Mensah.

Lord Kenya attributes his new album to “the making of God” and believes the outreach would be determined by the Holy Spirit because “I know he who has started the good thing will surely take it to an end.”

“The peace I feel inside is incomparable… and I’m happy that He [Jesus] has asked me to go out there and share the message and that is the happiest thing that I’m enjoying right now,” a joyous Kenya told Luv FM.

THERE are many events vying for attention in the media in recent times but the Close-Up Salsa Fiesta is having no problems at all garnering attention for itself.

As the dance festival gets to the semi-final stage, the audience’s attention is even more peaked.

The Close-Up Salsa Fiesta began with supermarket activations across the country, through which participants won salsa lessons at selected clubs in Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi. This gave many more people the exciting opportunity to participate in the dance festival.

The fiesta competition slowly enters into the semi-final stages. At this stage all the clubs in Takoradi will compete for a slot at the finals and the same holds true for clubs in Kumasi, while the clubs in Accra will get to compete for four slots at the finals.

The semi-final stage opens this coming weekend in Takoradi with the Vienna City Salsa Club, North Sea Restaurant Club and Last Hour Beach Salsa Clubs competing at Akroma Plaza (Charming Hall) for the one slot to the finals which comes off in Accra in January.

The clubs will be judged on creativity, agility, body coordination, confidence and energy among other qualities.

The winning club will have to do a really good of convincing their peers that when they get to the finals they will be able to best represent the region and hopefully bring the title to Takoradi.

The competition, which commences at 6pm on Saturday, December 10, 2011, is expected to be the highlight of the Close-Up Salsa Fiesta in Takoradi since the competition began there about six weeks ago.

Yvonne Nelson Is Ghana’s Hottest in Nigeria PDF Print E-mail

It is unclear who is currently carrying the mantle as Nigeria’s hottest actress, following previous claims that actresses Mercy Johnson and Tonto Dikeh were battling for the top spot.

However, there are reports that Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has emerged as the hottest Ghanaian actress in Nigeria.

NEWS-ONE sources in Nigeria said there was high demand for the actress in Nigeria just like when debuted in Nollywood some years ago.

“Yvonne is in high demand in Nigeria. Despite your producers banning her, she is excelling in Nigeria big time. I know she is always in Nigeria,” added the source who is a Nigerian journalist with a reputable entertainment newspaper in Nigeria.

The source was unable to confirm other actresses that were on the hottest actress list.

Another source said Ghanaian actor Frank Artus was also living his dream as a hot actor in Nollywood.

Back in Ghana, movie productions appeared to have slow down this year, the reason a lot of local movies have not been premiered.

Yvonne on the other hand has featured in most of the movies which would be out this Christmas season or early next year.

This year, Yvonne has been in the media spotlight, arguably more than any other celebrity in Ghana- from issues of her illegal ban, rumours about a pregnancy that didn’t exist, attempts on her life and so on.

She was last in the news for shopping for her YN Closet fashion shop, and has been nominated for Ghana Movie Awards Best Actress In Supporting Role for her role in ‘4play Reloaded’.

Yvonne is a former Miss Ghana contestant who burst onto Ghana’s movie scene with a big-screen role in ‘Princess Tyra’.

Her first ever supporting role in Venus Film’s movie, ‘The Return of Beyonce’, which featured the likes of Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah, and Nadia Buari among others, prepared her for a successful movie career.

She quickly became a household name, not only in Ghana but in Africa, after her role in ‘Princess Tyra’.

Yvonne has proved her versatility as an actress by starring in a number of Ghanaian and Nigerian movies, including ‘Prince Pride’, ‘Girls Connection’, ‘Playboy’, and ‘Golden Adventure’.

She won Ghana’s Favourite Actress Award at the Ghana Movie Awards last year.

She was has also been nominated twice at the African Movie Academy Awards.

As part of her efforts to give back to society, Yvonne launched Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation in 2010 to educate the public on the harmful effects of the eye ailment.

The 20-something-year-old single actress hails from Cape Coast in the Central Region. She had her basic education at St. Martin De Porres in Dansoman, where she currently resides in Accra. She then continued at Aggrey Memorial High School and the Central University College, where she read Human Resource Management. She is also into designing.
